With Spring comes something new at Söntés. And you know us—we tend to go big! Our Söntés Spring/Summer Gallery Exhibition has begun, with more than 80 pieces of artwork newly arrived from twelve hand-chosen regional artists. And in two weeks, Söntés is hosting a cocktail party for you to meet the artists!art poster1

We will officially launch the Söntés Spring/Summer Gallery Exhibition with our Art Opening and Cocktail Party on Sunday, April 14, from 2-5 p.m. Join us for this fun cocktail reception, some light hors d’oeuvres, and conversations with the artists.

The Söntés Spring/Summer Gallery Exhibition includes works of art ranging from pastels, watercolors, fiber, photography, sculpture, acrylic, and digital computer images. We say “Gallery” Exhibition, because Söntés Restaurant itself is the gallery. The art is displayed on the walls and windowsills, and there are freestanding sculptures on the dining floor. When a piece is sold, the artist replaces it with another work, so that new pieces are continually coming in to the restaurant.

So, who are the talented and prolific artists behind all this great work? Without further ado, meet the twelve chosen artists, who will be in attendance on April 14th at the Art Opening:

Kathleen Braud, watercolor
Richard Brubaker, sculpture
Robert Dougherty, digital images
David Esslemont, woodblock prints
Karl Friedrich, sculpture
Francie Ginocchio, fiber
Fred Ginocchio, pastels
Paula Hardin, photography
Amanda Orth, oil
Jessi Sawyer, photography
John Terwilliger, pastel & charcoal
Carla Thompson, acrylics

The artists are from Little Falls, Decorah/England, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Northfield, and Rochester.  Many are university-trained with degrees in Studio Art, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Print Making, and Graphic Arts, but there are also several self-taught artists and students of master artists. One artist currently living in Decorah was trained in London and is nationally and internationally recognized for his talent.

Each artist will be featured in this Söntés blog throughout the Spring/Summer seasons as their work is on display.

“The art chosen for the Söntés Spring/Summer Gallery Exhibition has a freshness and simplicity of design and color,” says artist Fred Ginocchio.  “This mix of color and the variety of media in such a gallery-like space is uplifting.”

One guest recently told us she liked the idea of “dining in an art gallery.” We like it, too. Feel free to walk around, from room to room, and look at the pieces. Build that stroll into your lunch, dinner, or happy hour plans. Discover your favorite pieces and reserve a table near them. (Or, ask us about purchasing a piece and take it home with you.)

“It’s exciting to see the amazing work being done by artists from our region,” says Tessa Leung, Söntés proprietor. “I’m looking forward to the Opening on April 14th when the public can meet these talented artists.”

The twelve artists were chosen by application process. Their artwork will be displayed through mid-September, but the artists themselves will be here April 14 at the official Art Opening and cocktail reception from 2-5 p.m.

If you’ve ever looked around at the artwork at Söntés and wondered, “Where did all this come from?” Or thought, “I’d like to sit down with the artist and discuss this piece.” Here’s your chance. They’ll be here.
