Photographer Jessi Sawyer was chosen for the Söntés Spring/Summer Gallery Exhibition (S/SGE) for her thought-provoking photographs of hands digging in the dirt and of distant lands with pops of color. Sawyer Alley

Her work ranges from photography and digital video to sculpture and jewelry, and this spectrum shows through in the cross-pollination and diversity of her work. Talking about her work, Sawyer says, “I play and experiment.”

Sawyer received her B.A. in Studio Art from the College of St. Benedict in Minnesota. She received Second Place at the Annual Library Art Show, Juried, and an Honorable Mention in the 9th Annual Undergraduate Exhibition, Juried, both at the College of St. Benedict. She has participated in the Red Hot Art Festival in Minneapolis, and has created Cholula Jewelry, her own line of handmade metalwork and stone jewelry.

Sawyer HandsWhile she produces a variety of commissioned jewelry pieces for individual buyers, she is also currently represented at BNOX Gold & Iron in Pepin, Wisconsin, and at the Lanesboro Arts Center in Minnesota. Keeping new work in two galleries has kept Sawyer busy. “Sending things off to the galleries is a little freeing,” she says. “I’ve made a lot of things I don’t know that I would have, otherwise.”

When she’s not creating art, Sawyer can be found practicing dressage with her horse, Cholula. Sawyer was born in Minneapolis and currently lives and works in Rochester.

The Söntés Spring/Summer Gallery Exhibition (S/SGE) will be displayed at Söntés for another month, with more than 80 pieces of art for sale. Wander. Absorb. Our house is your house.
